McDowell finishes fifth in North/South 100 at Florence

On Wednesday afternoon Dale McDowell and the Shane McDowell Racing team made the trek to Florence Speedway (Union, Ky.) piloting his E-Z-GO No. 17m Late Model for the 34th annual Ralph Latham Memorial. In a stout field of 53 Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series (LOLMDS) entries, Dale edged his way into the opening night feature with the third and final transfer spot in his heat race. The following night for the North/South Shootout, McDowell came one spot shy of a transfer position in his heat with a fourth place finish, sending him into the B-Main. Streaking to a 12-lap consolation victory, Dale locked into the 20th-starting position for the $10,000-to-win A-Main. Wheeling his way into the Top-10, McDowell passed 11 cars to register a ninth place finish.

On Friday evening for a pair of heat races, Dale charged forward six spots in his first heat to finish third. With Mother Nature pushing back the second round of heats to Saturday afternoon, McDowell posted a second place finish behind Josh Rice, which positioned him fourth overall in passing points.

Locked into the fourth-starting position for the $50,000-to-win Sunoco Race Fuels North/South 100 A-Main, Dale dropped one spot in the 100-lap affair to register a fifth place finish behind Tim McCreadie, Brandon Overton, Jimmy Owens, and Chris Ferguson.
