McDowell bags a pair of podium finishes in Southern Nationals doubleheader

On Friday night Dale McDowell was one of 35 Late Models on hand at Smoky Mountain Speedway (Maryville, Tenn.) to kick off the Schaeffer’s Southern Nationals. Following the fourth fastest time in his qualifying group, McDowell edged Michael Chilton in his heat to pick up the 8-lap victory. Jumping up one spot in the 53-lap affair, Dale notched a runner-up finish behind Chris Madden with Cory Hedgecock, Brandon Overton, and Ross Bailes rounding out the Top-5. (Michael Moats photo)

The following night at Wythe Raceway (Rural Retreat, Va.) for another $10,053-to-win A-Main, Dale topped the 21-car field in time trials before coming in second in his heat behind Chris Madden. Holding his spot for all 53-laps of the feature, McDowell scored a third place finish behind Brandon Overton and Chris Madden with Ross Bailes and Donald McIntosh completing the Top-5 finishers.
