Dale McDowell notches runner-up finish in Bristol Dirt Nationals opener

Shane McDowell Racing was back in action on Friday afternoon with Dale McDowell piloting the E-Z-GO No. 17m Late Model at Bristol Motor Speedway (Bristol, Tenn.) for the XR Super Series season opener. With 37 Late Models entered for the second annual Bristol Dirt Nationals, Dale jumped up one spot in his heat to place second, trailing Chris Madden. Starting the $50,000-to-win A-Main in fifth, McDowell raced forward three spots in the 50-lap affair to register a second-place finish. He followed Madden across the line with Brandon Overton, Jonathan Davenport, and Mike Marlar rounding out the Top-5. (Michael Moats photo)

For another $50,000-to-win A-Main on Saturday, McDowell’s sixth-to-third run in his heat race positioned him 10th on the starting grid for the finale. Clawing forward three spots in the 50-lapper, Dale posted a seventh-place finish.

With the first two events in the books, Dale sits in the second in the XR Super Series point standings.
