Runner-up finish in Kyle Larson Late Model Challenge at Bulls Gap
After a handful of rainouts plagued their month of March, Shane McDowell Racing returned to action on Thursday afternoon with Dale McDowell piloting the E-Z-GO No. 17m Late Model at Volunteer Speedway (Bulls Gap, Tenn.) for the second running of the Kyle Larson Late Model Challenge.
Drawing 44 Late Models, Dale laid down the third-fastest lap in his qualifying group before placing second in his heat. Starting the $20,000-to-win A-Main in fifth, McDowell climbed three positions in the 50-lapper to register a second-place finish. Dale nearly edged ahead of front-runners Kyle Larson and Jonathan Davenport as the duo battled for the lead in the closing laps but would cross the line in second. He trailed Larson to the checkers with Davenport, Mike Marlar, and Chris Madden completing the top-five finishers.
