Eighth-place finish in Mountain Moonshine Classic prelim
For a doubleheader weekend with the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series (LOLMDS), Shane McDowell Racing and Dale McDowell rolled into Smoky Mountain Speedway (Maryville, Tenn.) on Friday evening to compete on the recently redesigned 3/8-mile oval for the Mountain Moonshine Classic.
After rough track conditions forced officials to eliminate heat races and set the grid for prelims based on qualifying times, McDowell laid down the fifth-fastest lap in his 22-car group. With $5,000 on the line in his preliminary feature, Dale dropped two positions in the 35-lapper to finish seventh.
On Saturday, Dale raced his way into the $50,000-to-win Mountain Moonshine Classic with a runner-up finish in his heat. Pulling off on the lap 34 of the 60-lap affair, McDowell was scored 22nd in the final rundown.
