Dale McDowell visits Golden Isles for Super Bowl of Racing
Taking part in the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series (LOLMDS) season opener, Dale McDowell unloaded the Shane McDowell Racing No. 17M Late Model at Golden Isles Speedway (Brunswick, Ga.) on Thursday for the General Tire Super Bowl of Racing.
Following the fifth-fastest qualifying effort in his time trial group, McDowell secured his spot into Thursday’s prelim with a second-place finish in his heat. With a $10,000 top prize up for grabs, Dale was an early retiree from the 40-lapper on lap 28.
With wet weather washing out Friday’s program, Dale’s fifth-place finish in his heat race on Saturday relegated him into a consolation race for one last shot at the $25,000-to-win Super Bowl of Racing finale. Needing to place second or better to make the show, McDowell fell two spots shy with a fourth-place outing.
