McDowell runner-up in 55th-annual World 100
Hall of Famer Grabs Back-to-Back $12,000 Preliminary Wins
MOORESBURG, Tenn. (09/08/25) – While he came up just one spot short in Saturday’s 100-lap finale, Dale McDowell enjoyed a successful weekend in the 55th annual World 100 at Eldora Speedway aboard his Shane McDowell Racing / Reece Monument Company No. 17m Team Zero Race Cars Late Model.
The 2005 World 100 champion set the tone early with back-to-back $12,000 victories in preliminary features on Thursday and Friday, then capped the weekend with a hard-fought runner-up finish in the main event. After taking a provisional and starting deep in the field on Saturday, McDowell charged forward 17 spots to claim second at the checkers.
"I was catching them,” McDowell said of his pursuit of eventual winner Ricky Thornton Jr. “I don't know if I could have got to them, but I definitely had some momentum going and it's kind of like the tires sealed up a little bit and I couldn't take back off on those restarts. I don't know. I needed to carry momentum. I mean, I'm dejected a little bit. I'm bridesmaid, but you can't be dejected with this crowd and the best racers in the world here, so I'm proud to be a part of it.
The World 100 weekend began Thursday for Shane McDowell Racing with Dale advancing into his preliminary with a heat race win. He trailed Devin Moran for much of the 25-lap A-Main before executing a dramatic last-lap slider to steal the victory—his third overall of the season.
On Friday, McDowell continued his momentum, charging from the fifth row to capture his second $12,000 win of the weekend, holding off Bobby Pierce and Ethan Dotson in the 25-lap prelim.
A six-car inversion set the stage for Saturday’s heat races, where McDowell started on the third row and finished sixth. He was awarded a points provisional for the 100-lap, $72,000-to-win World 100 finale and mounted an impressive rally. Starting 19th, McDowell powered through the field, climbing to second by lap 90. Despite his late-race charge, he fell just short of reeling in race leader Ricky Thornton Jr. over the final 10 circuits.
The runner-up effort earned McDowell $25,000, bringing his total weekend earnings to $49,000.

McDowell and the Shane McDowell Racing team will now regroup for a quick turnaround ahead of Thursday’s FloRacing Night in America presented by Kubota event at Volunteer Speedway. The second annual Scott Bloomquist Memorial Scorcher is headlined by a $20,000-to-win A-Main.
