McDowell fourth in Sunday's Spring Thaw at Bulls Gap
After Mother Nature pushed back Friday’s event to Sunday, Dale McDowell unloaded his Team Zero Race Car No. 17m Late Model into battle at Volunteer Speedway (Bulls Gap, Tenn.) on Saturday for the doubleheader weekend with the XR Super Series.
Joining 33 entries, Dale topped his 17-car group in time trials before placing first in his heat. After jumping out to an early race lead in the $30,000-to-win A-Main, McDowell suffered a broken driveshaft on lap 15 that brought a disappointing end to run out front.
On Sunday, McDowell stormed into the finale with heat race victory. Chasing the $12,000 payday, McDowell rolled to a fourth-place finish in the 40-lapper, chasing Mike Marlar, Devin Moran, and Jimmy Owens across the line with Brandon Overton coming in fifth.
